Strong support and resistance levels

Updated 06.11.2026

A level is a price from which the market has turned more than once. Below the current price it is called support, above it resistance. At such prices many traders have orders, stops and liquidations, so the price often reacts to the level again: it bounces off it or breaks through it sharply.

How macry finds a strong level

  • The site takes the last 300 candles of the 15m, 1h, 4h timeframes and looks for reversals: a candle whose high (or low) is the extreme for 3 candles on each side, after which the price moved away by at least 1 ATR within 12 candles. ATR (average true range) is the typical size of a candle on this coin, so the rule works the same for Bitcoin and for a small coin.
  • A level is strong if there were at least 2 such reversals at the same price. “The same price” means within the tolerance: 0.3 ATR, but not less than 0.08% of the price.
  • Up to 8 nearest levels are kept for each coin and timeframe.
resistance tolerance exact near wick
Price turned down three times from the same price: once exactly at the level, once just short of it and once after piercing it with a wick. The more such reversals, the stronger the level.

Touch, near touch and wick

  • Exact — the reversal happened right at the level, within 35% of the tolerance.
  • Near — the price stopped and turned before reaching the level, but within the tolerance.
  • Wick — the candle's shadow went beyond the level (no further than 2 tolerances), but the body stayed on its side. Such a false breakout often shows the level better than an exact touch: stops behind it have been taken, and the price returned.

When a level stops counting

If after the last touch the price closed beyond the level by more than the tolerance, or went back and forth through it, the level is dropped: the market no longer respects it. One switch is allowed — after a breakout, old resistance often becomes support (and vice versa), and such a level stays in the list.

How to use levels

  1. The more touches, the more important the level. Three or four reversals from one price is a level the whole market sees.
  2. The higher the timeframe, the stronger the level. A 4h level weighs more than a 15m level; on lower timeframes levels break more often.
  3. A level is a zone, not a line. The price rarely turns at exactly the same price, so leave room — at least the tolerance.
  4. Wait for the reaction. A bounce is confirmed by a candle closing back off the level; a breakout — by a close beyond it on growing volume and open interest.
  5. Put the stop beyond the level, not on it. Right at the level there are many orders, and the price often “sweeps” them before turning.

Levels on macry

With Pro you get the table of strong levels for all coins, levels on the chart, and a notification when the price approaches a level — the distance, the minimum number of touches and the timeframe are set in your account. You can also put a price alert (a bell) on any level on the chart: it fires once when the price reaches it.

Levels work well together with signals: if a pump runs into a strong resistance, there is a risk of a pullback; if there is free space above, the move has more room.

Levels are computed from history and show where the market reacted before. They do not guarantee that it will react again.
